The Regulations
Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations - (PUWER)
"...You must ensure that the work equipment you provide meets the requirements of PUWER.
In doing so you should ensure that it is:
* Maintained in a safe condition for use so that people's health and safety is not at risk.
* Inspected in certain circumstances to ensure that it is and continues to be, safe for use.

Any inspection should be carried out by a competent person (this could be an employee, if they have a necessary competence to perform the task) and a record kept until the next inspection...."

Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations - (LOLER)
"...Thoroughly examined in use at periods specified in the regulations (i.e. at least six-monthly for accessories and equipment used for lifting people and, at a minimum, annually for all other equipment) or at intervals laid down in an examination scheme drawn up by a competent person....

"....following a thorough examination or inspection of any lifting equipment, a report is submitted by the competent person to the employer to take the appropriate action..."

Installation

Thorworlds team of installation engineers can install any equipment supplied, nationwide.

This can be anything from an off-the-shelf item straight from the brochure, to a complete bespoke solution to a specific loading or unloading problem.

Training

Thorworld recognised the need for, and subsequently developed, a thorough training course for the use of its Mobile Yardramps. The course includes a classroom theory session, short examination and a practical session with the ramp. Though not a legal requirement, completion of this course is a way for employers to increase the safety of it’s employees when operating such equipment. In the case of any accidents within the workplace, completion of such a training course is also a valuable tool for proving competency of employees.

Aim: This course is designed to train delegates in the safe and efficient use of a Mobile Yardramp. It introduces them to the ramp in a way that is thorough yet easily understood. It explains the major parts of a ramp and their function. It covers in detail the safe working procedure of a ramp and highlights potential dangers if used incorrectly.

Course duration: 4 to 6 hours

Delegates: Maximum of 10 delegates per course/session

Location: On clients’ site

Elements Covered:

  • Why we train
  • Uses of a Yardramp
  • Getting to know your ramp
  • Pre use checks
  • Raising and lowering the ramp
  • Moving the ramp
  • Connecting the ramp to a trailer
  • Using the ramp
  • Disconnecting the ramp from the trailer
  • End of use checks
  • Maintenance
  • Risk Assessment

Health & Safety

Our service/installation staff are all suitably qualified in their field; most of whom are members of the Construction Skill Certification Scheme (CSCS), holders of the Client/Contractor National Safety Group Safety Passort (CCNSG), and are all heavily experienced in their fields. We also acheived SAFEcontractor approval in 2010 for the first time (Certificate number N00210201), and have remained approved since.

Replacement Parts

A wide range of replacement parts are readily available to suit our products for installation by ourselves, or other suitably qualified persons.

Equipment which is out of production is still catered for, as drawings are retained indefinitely for old designs and obsolete products.
