Reviewing the Christmas period. Could 2017 deliver improvements?

Together, the run-up to Christmas and the New Year sales period can combine to create the busiest time in a company’s loading bay calendar. By reviewing the past couple of months, and highlighting where improvements could be made, Thorworld Industries suggests companies with extra logistical requirements around Christmas and New Year could operate more efficiently, perform more effectively, and keep operatives safer, both throughout the year and in preparation for the 2017 festive period.

From Black Friday and Cyber Monday, to the December Christmas shopping rush and January sales dispatch, the logistical demands of the festive season create an opportunity to reflectively assess best working practice, and make recommendations for future improvements.

If dispatch deadlines have been missed, or staff safety compromised over recent months, a company could benefit from evaluating its existing equipment suitability, as well as availability.

Solutions for space

Consider whether the layout, size and capacity of the loading bay is appropriate to the nature of the load. If the manual manoeuvring of consignments is proving inefficient or hazardous, could the introduction of a loading yard ramp, with the capability to facilitate a forklift for example, be a more effective solution?

Rent or buy

Yard ramps needn’t be a permanent fixture.  If space is tight or your need is seasonal, an effective solution for fast, efficient fork lift facilitation can be supplied by Thorworld Industries, either to rent on a short, medium or long-term hire basis, or to buy on sale or return - making it an ideal application whether for occasional or continuous use.

Purpose designed and safe

If your review reveals a need for a more bespoke loading solution, Thorworld’s team of designers can create the perfect resolution - and as all independently tested Thorworld ramps meet the latest European standards and directives regarding safety, they can be relied upon to carry the CE mark of quality.

Whatever the weather

The unpredictable and often hazardous addition of winter weather conditions can prompt the need for better provision within the loading facility; a requirement that is often best met with the addition of the right accessories.

Functional and cost-effective, seals and shelters can safeguard both operatives and consignments, protecting stock and staff and keeping downtime and sickness to a minimum, whilst also aiding the timely dispatch of undamaged goods.

By assessing your busiest period immediately, fresh recollection will facilitate a more accurate evaluation of a loading bay’s performance,” says Thorworld’s Managing Director, John Meale.  “While waiting to review apparatus’ efficiency, could lead to issues being unintentionally missed or disregarded.

John recommends noting what worked well during the run up to Christmas, and highlighting where improvements could have been made, before talking to Thorworld Industries to learn more about how the installation of cost-effective equipment and accessories can minimise the potential for hazard, poor throughput, stock damage and staff downtime.

Improvements made now will begin to pay off immediately in terms of efficiency, safety and productivity,” John concludes, “…not just as a measure for efficiency in the run up to Christmas.
